One of this blog’s strongest supporters, Wilum Hopfrog Pugmire (himself an accomplished writer of weird fiction), recently asked for MORE pictures of WHH. Always happy to oblige, I present this gallery of Hodgson pics!

One of the promo shots WHH did of himself for his “School of Physical Culture”

This accompanied one of WHH’s articles on exercise.

This staged photo of WHH at a ship’s wheel was used in his lectures about life at sea.

A early photo of WHH. I am not sure of the year but probably roughly around 1903 or so.

Another ‘posed’ picture of WHH. Possibly a few years after the last one.

A nice profile shot of WHH in uniform. Likely around 1916 or so.

Another military shot. All of these are likely from the same period.

More from the same photo session.

Still another photo of WHH and his horse! (Courtesy of University of Georgia.)

And there you have it! Some nice photos of this legendary writer. Several people have expressed that, although they knew his work, they had no idea what WHH actually looked like! Well, now you know! Also, despite being somewhat short in stature, WHH was very strong and well-build due to his life-long interest in exercise and physical culture.

Very good blog you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any discussion boards that cover the same topics talked about in this article?
I’d really like to be a part of community where I
can get suggestions from other knowledgeable individuals that share the same interest.
If you have any recommendations, please let me know.
Thank you!
Don’t know of any discussion boards. I normally don’t participate in such. There are a few Hodgson groups on Facebook including one I set up called “William Hope Hodgson Enthusiasts”.
This is a great site you are putting together.
Thanks! I’m glad you like it and spread the word!
Thanks, Wilum! Glad that you enjoyed the photos! There are still more pics of WHH that exist but they are not available for me to post because of copyright. Jane Frank’s book has reproduced many other pics (including some of his family) in her book, THE WANDERING SOUL. In one of his early articles, WHH took pictures of himself demonstrating exercises. If I can get a good enough scan, I may post them at a later point! Thanks for all of your support! And he was a handsome devil, wasn’t he? And yet, we do not have reports of him having many relationships!
Many many thanks. I had no idea that so many photos of WHH existed. The profile shots are especially wonderful, he was extraordinarily handsome. Wonderful blog, Sam!
